Russell M. Mortyn
Russell M. Mortyn has more than 20 years of experience representing clients in professional and general liability actions, with an emphasis on the defense of health care providers, law firms and other businesses. He has successfully taken more than 30 litigated matters to decision on behalf of his clients in addition to obtaining numerous dismissals and favorable rulings on summary judgment motions and “anti-SLAPP” motions.
Mr. Mortyn is a native San Franciscan. He returned to his home in the Bay Area to join Cholakian & Associates after raising his family in San Diego, where he was a member of the San Diego County Bar Association (SDCBA), the American Bar Association (ABA), Defense Research Institute (DRI), the Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS) and San Diego Defense Lawyers (SDDL). He has volunteered as a speaker at several high schools, and he has served as a judge for SDDL’s National Mock Trial Competition. His practice at Cholakian & Associates focuses on the defense of catastrophic injury actions and trucking cases.
He graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a double major in Economics and Computer Science in 1986. He later obtained a J.D. from Hastings College of Law, where he published his law review article “The Rehnquist Court and the New Establishment Clause” 19 Hastings Const. L.Q. 567 (1992). He completed his education with an LL. M. in Taxation from the University of San Diego School of Law in 2002.
